JF&CS Celebrates Pride |
JF&CS is proud to celebrate Pride Month 2018! Along with ongoing education and awareness, JF&CS staff have been celebrating Pride throughout the month of June. Activities this year range from a “Photo Hunt” where teams take pictures of LGBTQ+ related items on a list and a ‘Breakfast and Learn’ discussing LGBTQ+ related issues.
Please read this article from the Canadian Jewish News, featuring Michael Waxman, LGBTQ Services Coordinator at JF&CS.
All of this will culminate when we march in Toronto’s Pride Parade on Sunday, June 24. If you would like to join us at the Parade, please email pride@jfandcs.com. We are proud to show our community that we are an open and safe agency and ready to support the Jewish LGBTQ+ community.

Dining At The Diamond was a HUGE Success |
Thank you to everyone who attended or supported our sold out event, Dining at the Diamond.
On June 10th, 140 guests attended a marvelous evening where they enjoyed a delicious five course, farm to table meal prepared by Chef Jordan Wagman and his team while learning more about the Jerome D. Diamond Adolescent Centre.
The event raised an additional $10,000 in support of the school's cooking program lead by Jordan. Photos from the evening are available on our Facebook page and can be viewed here.

Get ready to CRINGE... for the fourth time |
First kisses. Hair perms. Fashion catastrophes. Forgetting your Bar Mitzvah portion. Slow dancing at arm's length. We've all been there. Now it's time to relive those dreadful moments and be thankful we've made it through our awkward phase... hopefully!
JF&CS Emerging Leaders is proud to present Cringe Worthy! Join us and 300 other young professionals on August 14th at the Opera House in Toronto for a trip down memory lane, as people share their most embarrassing teen stories, live on stage.
Money raised at our 4th Annual Cringe Worthy event will benefit JF&CS Opportunity Funds which provide financial assistance to vulnerable youth by giving them the chance to find a moment of happiness, calm, fulfillment and hope. These opportunities include but are not limited to experiences such as Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, camp, extra-curricular activities and post-secondary education.

BMO Volunteers at JF&CS |
|
This June, over 25 Bank of Montreal employees participated in the BMO Volunteer Day by supporting a variety of JF&CS programs including:
- Providing support to the Family Resource Centre staff and families by assisting with drop-in activities, such as arts and crafts and music; - Helping adults and seniors practice conversation English in an informal and welcoming setting at Conversation Café; - Gardening and cleaning with staff and clients in Maxie’s Garden, a partnership with Shoresh and Jewish Family & Child - Making and serving lunch while socializing with adults with mental health issues at The Bagel Club; - Organizing and preparing merchandise, unpacking and organizing donations at The Just A Second Shop.
One day can make a tremendous difference in the lives of people in the communities we serve. Volunteering is a deeply embedded part of the culture at Jewish Family & Child and we are very grateful for the BMO employees that participate in BMO Volunteer Days! If you would like to learn more about our volunteer opportunities, please call us at 416-638-7800 x 6266.

Giving back to campers |
Marissa celebrated her Bat Mitzvah on May 12th and decided that she wanted to give back to the Jewish community and to help other children by donating Simcha Baskets.
Marissa spends her summer at Camp Ashreinu and feels that it has really helped develop her self esteem and Jewish pride. Baskets were filled with items she knows campers will need such as thermal socks, a laundry bag, beach towel and so on, and were donated to JF&CS for clients attending camp. Their hope was to put a smile on a child’s face and to enhance their camping experience.
This summer, JF&CS is sending close to 100 clients to overnight camp as well as providing them with the essentials they need while at camp such as towels, socks and so on. If you wish to make a donation in support of children going to camp and camp supplies, click here. Your gift will make a difference.
